We missed all of you who couldn’t make our luncheon at Out Take Bistro and zowee… did we ever have a great time! Click on any of the photos below for a larger version and a description. I’m not the best photographer, but hey! I come awfully cheap.
Faculty in attendance: Theresia Cunningham, Louise Macatee, Julia Stesney, Karen Robertson Romney, Stephanie Heng, Kris Ragland… did I miss anyone?
We had alumnae from 1967 on up through the 1980s: what a fantastic turnout!
The food was great, too. ;-)
I didn’t write down names so I’m hoping some charitable alumnae with better memory retention will help me out; I’ll post any corrections as soon as I get them. (If I misspelled anyone’s names, I’m so sorry! Just let me know and I’ll fix EVERYTHING.)
And don’t forget to check out Brooke Killingsworth’s Facebook group for Argyll Alumnae. You’ll meet even more of your classmates and it’s FREE. You won’t get spammed like you will at Classmates.com or Reunion.com, either.

I hope all alumnae consider turning out for this event! Not only will we be guests at Out Take Bistro (translation: lunch is free!) but it’s a fantastic opportunity to reunite with your favorite teachers, principals and other Argyll staff.
At my last Argyll reunion my classmates and I got a chance to break bread with Mrs. Julia Stesney, Miss Lynda Sue Marks, and Miss Louise Macatee — we had a wonderful time catching up with those amazing women.
And very recently I got to meet Mrs. Karen Robertson (now Mrs. Romney) at the Argyll Dedication on Founder’s Day — the last time I spoke with her was in 1978 — let’s just say the fun factor at Founder’s Day was very high.
Don’t just think about coming to the luncheon, RSVP to Torie right now! (You can also call her at 213-713-3767.) You can download an invite here.

Argyll Alumnae Committee
January 6, 2009
I. Chairperson’s Report:
- Five new members are joining the e-committee as a result of the holiday card mailing. They are Cynthia Palmer-Rountree ‘68, Mary Manning ‘70, Georgia Chun ‘69, Teresa Modes ‘71, and Jennifer Lewis ‘83. Welcome to the new members.
II. Outreach:
- In an attempt to go paperless, we need to work on obtaining e-mails addresses for alumnae. We will do one more mailing asking for either an e-mail address or notification that a paper mailing is needed due to lack of computer access. Marcia will put together a list of alumnae with missing emails but current mailing address. Torie will ask Bonnie Wren if we can use the Argyll web site to post the message as well. It was also suggested we send a list to each class asking for contact info.
III. Events:
- Founder’s Day – We’ll be mailing an invitation only to those without email. Everyone else will receive it online.
- Revlon Run/Walk – Kathy Griffin reported that we officially have a team, “Team Argyll”. The event date is May 9th. Kathy is the team captain and Marcia is the team contact person. We need 25 people to sign up as soon as possible. The event is open to alumnae, their families and anyone wishing to walk with “Team Argyll”. The cost is $30 per person. Walkers should feel free to raise additional money if they wish to do so. Marcia will check if Campbell Hall has a team. If they don’t, we’ll invite current students and faculty, as well as parents of alumni. Kathy will look into getting Argyll green T-shirts for the team. Marcia will do an e-blast with details and an RSVP date. Torie will ask Bonnie if we can post it on the Argyll web site. We’ll also ask if people want to carpool. Kathy will check with the team rep to see about a meeting location.
Our Team number is #215 and people can go to RevlonRunWalk.com to begin signing up.
- Teacher Luncheon – Marcia will search for a location. The date is February 22nd. Torie will send the evite.
- South Bay Happy Hour – Kathy will ask a friend who lives in the area for a recommendation.
- Ventura Happy Hour – Pete Robbins, the Alumni Board Secretary, has friends with bars/restaurants in the area. Marcia will get details.
- Westside Happy Hour – Stacey suggested Primitivo Wine Bar
IV. Argyll Scholarship:
- Stacey suggested the question this year be: “What one female role model had the greatest impact in shaping your goals, and why?” The committee discussed the question and decided on the following: “Which woman in history has had the greatest impact in shaping your goals, and why?” The question will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee of the Board.
V. Misc.:
- Brooke Killingsworth started an Argyll Facebook page. Torie will ask Brooke if we can use it to promote Argyll events and the web site.
Meeting was adjourned.
Next meeting is February 3rd.

Our alumnae committee is coming up with some wonderful ideas! I especially like the newsletter doing features on teachers.
I ask all alumnae to consider subscribing to the alumnae committee updates (send your contact information here). If you decide later on that you’d rather not receive any mailings, just let us know and we’ll remove you from our list.
ARGYLL ACADEMY ALUMNAE COMMITTEE
DECEMBER 3, 2008
Attendance: Torie Daves, Stacey Naito, Toni Boim, Stuart Posin, Marcia Berman
E-committee: Missy Stalcup, Cathy Lydon, April Adams
Absent: Laura McKinzie, Kathy Griffin, Carrie O’Brien, Mindy Molinary, Toni Heebner
1. Chair Report:
A. Mailings:
- Torie reported that the postcard and letters were sent out. Thank you to everyone who addressed envelopes.
- This week an email version of the letter will go out.
- Next week a follow up e-mail will go out asking if anyone is interested to join either the committee or e-committee. Marcia mentioned that we need to work on acquiring more alumnae e-mail addresses. Stuart said he will try to locate some. Torie will ask Bonnie Schell Wren if a message can put posted on the Argyll web site.
- To date, the mailing resulted in 3 new e-committee members, Missy Stalcup ‘71, Cathy Lydon ‘72, and April Adams ‘76. They will receive the agenda and minutes and have the opportunity to respond, which will be reflected in the revised minutes.
2. Outreach
A. Holiday Card/Calendar of Events:
- We will be mailing holiday cards to alumnae with a calendar of events included. Kathy, Toni, Stacey, Torie and Mindy will be hand signing and addressing them.
- Toni suggested we include an insert asking for e-mail addresses.
- Marcia suggested we also e-mail individual classes asking for help locating missing alumnae much like we do for the reunions.
B. Alumnae Programs:
- Founder’s Day – Will be held on Thursday, February 5th. Torie isn’t sure how many alumnae will be able to attend during the day. She suggested we have a lunch the following Saturday and include the teachers. We can have a mini-dedication ceremony and tour the gallery exhibit.
- Stuart suggested we invited everyone to share a memory and videotape it.
- Theresia Cunningham will help contact teachers.
C. Career Guidance – We would like to consider sponsoring an event where alums from Argyll and Campbell Hall offer a “Career Night” for high school students. Booths could be set up representing different professions.
D. Newsletter – It was decided that we would do two newsletters per year. Contents will include articles and pictures from events and information on upcoming ones. Missy suggested we do Spotlight articles on teachers.
E. Happy Hours – It was decided that we will hold 3 Happy Hour gatherings in various cities based on where there is a concentration of alumnae. Marcia will research the database to determine the locations. Generally, we will hold one in Ventura and two in Orange County. We will have high tea in Pasadena. The remainder of the calendar was reviewed (see attached).
F. Future Events - Torie suggested sending our a survey this summer to ask alumnae what type of events they would like to see for next year, and if they would like them to be for alums-only, couples or family.
3. Technology
A. There is now a link to the Argyll website from the Campbell Hall web site.
B. We are going to look into teleconferencing for anyone who would like to participate in the meetings but can’t make it in person.
Next meeting: January 6th

I’m really liking the direction our Alumnae Steering Committee is taking. If there are any San Diego County alumnae who’d like to have a local meetup, let me know, because I would like to attend one myself!
ARGYLL ACADEMY ALUMNAE COMMITTEE
OCTOBER 29, 2008
Attendance: Kathy Griffin, Toni Boim, Stacey Naito, Torie Daves, Marcia Berman
l. Chair’s Report:
- Torie gave a briefing on the meeting with Rev. Canon Clarke with regards to the Argyll name change. It was a good meeting. Canon Clarke was very forthcoming and up front. The school became co-ed due to a fiscal decision. Had it happened today things would have been handled differently.
- Torie shared the draft of the letter explaining the decision to be sent to Argyll alumnae and asked the committee to email her with any changes/suggestions.
- It was decided that we would email the letter to those we have a good address for and mail to all the others. Marcia will look in the archives for Argyll stationery and try to recreate it.
II. Events:
- Revlon Run-Walk – Kathy reported that the date for this event is Saturday, May 9th, 2009. We need a minimum of 25 people to create a team by April 11th. The registration fee is $30 per person. We decided to name the team “Team Argyll”. Kathy volunteered to be the contact and team captain for this event. We would like to invite Argyll teachers to participate as well as board members, Julian and Tom Clarke. We talked about walking in memory of Mrs. Buckler and in honor of Mrs. Behlmer. We will send either a letter or save-the-date card out in January. Torie will ask Bonnie Wren to list it on the Argyll site. We will also list it on the CH site. Kathy will get all pertinent information by the December 3rd meeting.
- Founder’s Day – An Argyll plaque will be dedicated at the High School. The committee discussed having a luncheon with the Argyll teachers as part of the dedication. Marcia will inform the committee once the details of the event are finalized.
- Reunion – It was decided that Argyll alumnae would be invited by class to the June Reunion and to an Argyll all-school reunion via a cocktail party at Laura McKinzie’s house in the summer.
- Happy Hour – We will hold one in March or April. Marcia will look at where the majority of LA based alumnae live and then we’ll decide on a location and date.
- Event with teachers – Marcia will ask Theresia Cunningham if the teachers would be interested in either a tea or brunch with alumnae. If so, Marcia will send the committee potential dates. Marcia will also research tea venues. Kathy suggested Chado Tea Room and Huntington Gardens. Torie will look into the Magic Castle for brunch.
- Kathy suggested that next October we do an event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
III. Mailing:
- It was decided, based on Laura McKinzie’s past suggestion, that we send an “intriguing” postcard with the Argyll logo and buzz words relating to the school to get people’s curiosity up. We’ll follow with the letter mentioned above. The catch phrase used for the postcard will also be on the letter envelope.
- The committee would like to hand address the letters. Toni will help Marcia put packages together for committee members. Postcards will have mailing labels.
- Torie will work on class lists/reps. Stacey, Toni and Kathy will try to get missing information from their classes.
IV. Mission Statement/Group Name:
- It was decided to change the committee name to Argyll Academy Alumnae committee. It was also decided that we don’t need a mission statement. Our mission is the same as the Board’s.
V. Argyll Scholarship:
- Kathy suggested that the question for the Argyll scholarship this year be about women’s issues.
- It was decided that we will solicit all Argyll alumnae with a letter written to them.
Next meeting is December 3rd.
